Connor's First Day of Kindergarten

So, on Tuesday, September 8, a new chapter in our lives started: Connor began school. Everything went very well. We had had kindergarten orientation the previous week and so didn't anticipate any issues. Tuesday morning we got ready and our fourth grade neighbor came over at 8:30. Then we all headed to school (we live within walking distance). Once there the kids have to line up by grade until the school opens. We accompanied Connor to his room and stayed for about ten minutes. During that time Matt and I felt that everything would be okay, especially after witnessing a couple of teacher-student interactions. One girl walked up to the teacher, in the midst of the chaos (mainly caused by nervous parents), put her hand on her hip, and said with an attitude, "So what are we going to do, anyhow?" Matt and I looked at each other, as well as caught the eye of another nearby parent, and we all started laughing (it was noisy, so thankfully it wasn't obvious to others why we were laughing). A few minutes later the teacher broke away from some parents just to see a boy, with backpack still on, standing near the bathroom. She went up to him and asked if he needed to use the restroom before finding his seat. Apparently he must not have made it to the orientation because he looked at her and said in a somewhat demanding tone: "Who are you?" Right around then is when we left, knowing that we had prepared our son well (manners included) and that he'd be fine. And I did not shed a tear (but I must confess to crying the night before, after Connor went to bed, which is when it hit me).

Sounds like that teacher is going to have her hands full. On a side note, you are on a posting roll ;-)
