The Three Mice-keeters
So, Connor has been bugging us for a pet for a while. We have two dogs, but he kept saying that he wanted a pet that was just his own--specifically, a mouse. So, Matt and I started seriously talking about it last month. We weren't really too worried about him being responsible, because as it is, he loves to feed and water our dogs--and many times does it on his own, without being asked. He has begged us to let him walk our dogs, too, but they are just too big for him (a Boxer and a Rottweiler). So Matt and I told him that he had to continue to show that he was responsible enough--that meant picking up toys with no problem, etc., in addition to continuing to help with the dogs. He held up his end of the bargain. So, on Tuesday we went to the pet store to buy the cage, bedding, and food. We put the cage together that night. Then on Wednesday, after swim practice, I took Connor back to the pet store, where he picked out his three mice (supposedly all male) and named them Mousy, Rocky, and Gary. I don't know how we arrived at the number three, but somehow that became how many he was going to get. Furthermore, he had to pay some of his own money toward them. Well, so far, so good. He checks their water regularly, has been on top of feeding them, and tomorrow will learn how to clean the cage. For now he isn't allowed to take them out of the cage unless Mommy or Daddy is in the room. And while mice wouldn't have been my choice, they are cute!
